ELC

ELC students always explore the best picture books. Picture books are the most fun and exciting resources to enjoy.  The most wanted books are the colorful and have lots of pictures. Library skills will be focusing on Nursery Rhymes title and character study. Students will easily memorize the characters through the rhyme, card and movement games. These activities are designed to prepare the students for Book Week Celebration in March 2010.

Reception

Library skills will be focusing on how to find books that are related to classroom Unit of Inquiry. Students will be guided to browse through the JF and NF shelves to find suitable books on “Travel around the World” so that they are able to discuss about the content of the book and create a journey story based on the story of the book they have been discussed; poster or games.  These activities are designed to prepare students for Book Week Celebration in March 2010.

Stories to read that suitable to Reception Unit of Inquiry are:

Grade 1 and 2

Students will be guided to find suitable books on “Food Affects Our Health” on the JF, MF and NF shelves that are related to classroom Unit of Inquiry. Students are encouraged to find books on their country of origin and mention their favorite and traditional food of the country. Students are able to create an imagination story and games based on information taken from NF books.  These activities are designed to prepare students for Book Week Celebration in March 2010.

Grade 3 and 4

Students will be guided to find suitable fiction and non-fiction books that are related to classroom Unit of Inquiry. Students are encouraged to find books on Belief Systems as well as learn the library skills (physics of books, where books are located, and about books classifications). Students will begin to learn how to use encyclopedia properly. These activities are designed to prepare students for Book Week Celebration in March 2010.

Grade 5 and 6

Students will be guided to find suitable fiction and non-fiction books that are related to classroom Unit of Inquiry. Students are encouraged to find books on Family Histories as well as learn the library skills (physics of books, where books are located, and about books classifications, glossary). Students will begin to learn how to use encyclopedia properly. Students learn what and how to compare their personal histories, information written in the book and their favorite author’s personal histories. These activities are designed to prepare students for Book Week Celebration in March 2010.
