Welcome! As the name of our class implies, Reception introduces students to a wide variety of learning experiences and skills. This year, our children will focus on developing strong foundations in Literacy and Mathematics through the PYP Curriculum. We have also be incorporated the Lexia Reading and Symphony Mathematics programs into our routine.
A homework packet accompanies the Monday reading folder. The packet contains various activities that support the core skills children learn in class. Homework packets focus on but aren’t limited to support for literacy and mathemetics. They should be returned by Friday.
Ibu Mersy and I have had an exciting year in Reception so far, which began with our first Transdisciplinary Theme, Who We Are, continued with our second, How We Organize Ourselves, and third, How the World Works. The students began by investigating their personal histories through a variety of activities and disciplines. Next we Looked at the organization of our school, and last term we delved into science with an investigation into heat. Currently, we are inquiring into how and why people travel.
Our Key Concepts for our fourth Unit if Inquiry are Connection, Change and Reflection. Students engage in inquiry that allows them to connect with things they already know and that leads them to reflect on different aspects of travel.
Thank you all for entrusting me with your children’s educational development. Ibu Mersy and I will continue to strive to make it a fun and rewarding year for everyone.
