PYP Program

The IB Primary Years Programme at ISB
The Primary Years Programme (PYP) prepares students to be active participants in a lifelong journey of learning.

What is it about?
The IB Primary Years Programme (PYP) is a curriculum framework designed for students aged 3 to 12. It focuses on the development of the whole child as an inquirer, both in the classroom and in the world outside. It is defined by six transdisciplinary themes of global significance, explored using knowledge and skills derived from six subject areas, with a powerful emphasis on inquiry-based learning.

Who we are  |  Where we are in place and time  |  How we express ourselves | How the world works  |  How we organize ourselves  |  Sharing the planet

These themes are about issues that have meaning for, and are important to, all of us. The programme offers a balance between learning about or through the subject areas, and learning beyond them. The six themes of global significance create a transdisciplinary framework that allows students to “step up” beyond the confines of learning within subject areas.

The Taught Curriculum
The six transdisciplinary themes help teachers to develop and organise a programme of units of inquiry. These inquiries are in-depth investigations into important central ideas and are structured around inquiry questions identified by both the teacher and students. They require a high level of involvement on the part of the students and usually last for several weeks.

The IB Primary Years Programme at ISB
The aim of the IBPYP at The International School of Bogor is to create and teach a curriculum that is engaging, relevant, challenging and significant for learners aged 3-12. The programme:

  • Addresses students’ academic, social and emotional well-being;
  • Encourages students to develop independence and to take responsibility for their own learning;
  • Supports students’ efforts to gain understanding of the world and to function comfortably within it; and,
  • Helps students establish personal values as a foundation upon which international-mindedness will develop and flourish.
