Inquiry skills come naturally to children when they are encouraged to freely explore.  Our trip to Kebun Raya Bogor gave us an opportunity to express and record our wonderings about the environment.  We saw plants flowers and insects that appear lifted from a fairy tale, learned about aquatic plants, and unfortunately saw some rubbish on the ground and in the river that made us sad.  We wonder what we can we do to protect the earth from rubbish and other pollutants?

Taking photos allows us to focus on what we appreciate in our immediate environment at school.  As a group, we discussed the different perspectives we can see through a photograph.  We looked at photos and asked questions such as “Was the photographer standing up, sitting down, up high, or down low?” and “What do you think the photographer was trying to communicate when taking the photo?”  We used iPad screen-sized cut outs to explore our schoolyard and find a small area that captured our interest, then took and framed the photos.  We live in a beautiful environment that we need to take care of!
